An Evolving Artist

Hi there! First of all, thank you for being here! I'm so glad you decided to check out my art! My name is Lacey Arthur and I'm 30 years old. I've been creating art off and on my whole life. Currently I live in North Dakota, my home state. Here, my days are spent creating fun unique characters with a focus being on fantasy, mermaids, fairies, and elves. Though my style has evolved over the years of my life, my true passion for art has never changed. I'd like to give you a bit of why my art looks like it does now.

Through self-discovery and growth in mental health, I've learned that my entire life I've been a perfectionist and a people-pleaser. This carried over into my art, which catapulted me into the hyper-realistic portraiture style. The stress of drawing a direct copy from a photo and drawing to please others impacted my mental well-being negatively, and made me hate drawing. That's when I discovered through ongoing therapy for childhood trauma, that drawing from my inner child's perspective is key to healing my mind and growing my creativity.

Creative Process

My creative process starts with juggling ideas and then giving up on those ideas to just free draw. Then the piece takes shape and I know exactly who my character will be and look like. Then, I sketch it out fully in detail in pencil, erase until just barely visible and color with a variety of paint markers, alcohol markers, colored pencils and pens.
